Joust of the Saracen

The Saracen Joust of Arezzo, Italy, is a game of chivalry dating back to the medieval period when it was a great public event and was used to make certain civil celebrations more solemn.  The tournament was regularly held through the 17th century, but declined and then disappeared during the 18th century.  It was restored in 1931 as a form of historical reenactment set in the 14th century, held on the third Saturday in June and the first Sunday in September.  It begins with a colorful procession of 350 knights in a parade through the streets of Arezzo.
