The 106th edition of the world’s most famous bicycle race, one of cyclinings three Grand Tours, starts this year in Brussels to honor the 50th anniversary of the first Tour de France win of Eddy Merckx. The modern edition of the race consist of 21 day-long stages over a 23-day period (with 2 rest days) and cover approximately 3,500 kilometers (2,200 miles). There are typically 20-22 teams of eight riders.
