Switzerland Day

August 1

First recognized in 1891, celebrated annually since 1899, and made an official holiday in 1994, this day is called ‘Swiss National Day’ in Switzerland, to commemorate the Federal Charter of 1291, when three alpine cantons swore an oath of confederation to establish the Swiss Confederation, and each year features paper lantern parades, bonfires and fireworks, and strings of Swiss flags.  Members of the Noodynamics Institute around the world take this day each year to celebrate the participation and contributions of Switzerland in Western Civilization.
