National Etiquette Week

May 13 - May 17

Beginning Monday of the second full week in May, National Etiquette Week was established in 1997 to celebrate the value of good manners. This week provides us with the opportunity to pay special attention to the practices of good breeding and grace in social interactions are fading away in our ever-more plebeian world. This is a good time to set an example and to teach children some traditional rules of etiquette, including the common courtesies of saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, holding doors open for others, standing to deliver a handshake, taking off one’s hat upon entering a building, removing sunglasses and/or headphones when engaging in conversations, and so on.
